Some people remain unconcerned about the problems of others. Many of
them can be found on the campus newsgroup uiuc.test. Here is how they
have made use of University bandwidth that is supposed to be for testing
news programs. I will let them speak on the world at large by giving you
their own words an actions.

I wrote about the importance of the environment. Their response: A
continued attempt to waste the time of people discussing technology news
by intentionally posting irrelevant articles.

I wrote about the senselessness of war with Iraq. Their response: A
genuine concern -that their favorite TV show is canceled. 

I wrote about the distribution of wealth in South Africa. Their
response: Smoke Weed.

I wrote about the exploitation of natural resources in the third world.
Their response: a discussion of the statistics on how frequently they
post messages to the group. 

I wrote about the dangers of exporting genetically modified foods. Their
response: A mocking message about GM cars written with the coherency of
a four year old.
