Harry Potter 6 Release Party - 15 Jul 2005

As with two years ago, I went to Pages For All Ages for the midnight release of the new Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. My camera had improved, as did my photography skills; but I still took off without actually buying a copy of the book. I did get it from Amazon later, though I haven't gotten around to reading it yet...

Images
Spotlight Truck
This was the new item of the event - a spotlight truck to bring people from all directions.
Spotlights at Night
They look more impressive with the flash off.
More Spotlights
In fact, they look a *lot* more impressive.
Spotlights, Rear
Well, as long as one of them is at least partially facing you...
Early Crowds
This was still an hour before anything was coming out.
Professor Trelawny
Professor of Divination, she's doing fortune telling for the kids. The best event of the event.
More Divination
She really did look the part, and the kids ate it up.
Long Lines
The age of the people was well up from two years ago, more than just the two years would account for.
Drawing Table
There had to be some way to keep track of the bored younger folks.
Magician
Having a magician was a good plan on their part.
Harry Potter Costume
I'm still horrified at the sight of it. And grinning.
Wizard Taking Notes
On paper? How magical!
Discarded Glasses
You gotta take a break from wizarding to play with origami, I guess.
Trivia Contest
Not a particularly well-attended one, though.
Reading Manga
The comic-readers of tomorrow? I hope so...
Mandrake Nursery
"Warning! Mandrake Nursery, Pleaes Be Quiet!"
Owlery
They used all available space for this release.
Beth
She was playing along with me, but didn't find it as fascinating for some reason. Maybe it's because she never got around to Book Five.
Pat
He was along too, and seemed to be having a fairly good time.
Kids and TV
They were watching the third movie on DVD.
Kids and TV, II
Certainly, it kept them busy...
Muggle Shirt
I should get one of those.
Witch Hat Girl
Most of the cute outfits were on kids of her age.
More Costumes
I feel liek I should have been able to identify them, or at least get better pictures.
You Know You're A Harry Potter Fan...
At least it's a cauldron.
Back to the Spotlights
I was actually asked to get some shots of these things by an employee.
Back to the Spotlights, II
So who am I to argue?
Beth in front of Pages
This looked good on a high-contrast screen, I swear.
Tim in front of Pages
This did too!
Beth in front of the Spotlights
Not that scale was a huge issue that night.
Valet Broom Parking
I wish I'd brought a mop.
Cafe
This was a secondary line, to the main book one.
Nearing the Time
...and so the interest is rising.
Larger Lines
I have no idea how many people were in the store.
Still Watching TV
The movie was nearly over, so that they could get to the front of the store and *BUY!*.
More Lines
I like the lone witch hat.
The Crowds, From Above
That's a lot of people in that store.
Spider Costume
That was the most complicated costume of the night.
Rolling In The Books
Here they come!
Second Cart of Books
I believe they sold out that night, too.
Posing with the Books
I wish I remembered her name, she went to Uni...
Gryffindor Scarf
I should get Beth to make me one.
Books on Tape
And the Extra-Expensive Editions. There weren't as many of those, for obvious reasons.
Nearly Ready to Buy
But there's still 11 minutes left!
Andrew
He works in Beckman with me, and was one of very few familiar faces that night. (I'm getting old.)
Friendly, Relaxed Girl
The former was in strong supply, but the latter was not that night. So I appreciated her.
Happy Tree Friends: the Book
Pat's major discovery of the night.
Hogwarts Kid
I think he looked more like Snape than Harry, but I didn't have the heart to tell him that. *grin*
