Quad Day 2005 (23 Aug 2005)

Like last year, I ran a booth at Quad Day this year for Usenet @ UIUC, instead of just showing up and taking pictures. Of course, I still *did* take plenty of pictures, but that just shows my dedication, doesn't it? I'm still happy that I didn't burn too badly out of the deal.

Images
Starting the Day
As I came in in the morning, not too many booths were set up.
My Table
I should have brought a smaller table, but this is what I had.
Chemistry Society
These guys were a couple of booths down from us. It was almost like working...
Awaiting the Crowd
Early in the morning, everyone can just calmly get things together and await the rush.
Building a Tent
Cheaters. There was no risk of them getting sunburnt!
Picture from My Table
We were off to the side, in between Noyes Lab and Chem Annex. Not a bad spot.
Waiting for Others
Across the way, one of the girls waits for her friends.
Segway
I saw two segways that day. I guess their popularity is increasing.
Rotaract Club
The girl across the way at least got her poster up.
Swing Society Setup
They didn't have their table yet, but they had their posterboard.
Assembly Hall Area
Always one of the biggest areas, this time we were right next to it.
IEEE
I should really care more about these guys.
National Organization for Women
They had my table! Grr!
John in Armor
The owner of one of the two local gaming stores always, John really enjoys doing this stuff.
Courtney and Table
It was good to see a familiar face in the booth next door.
Hort Club
There were only a couple of pictures of my Dad on the board. Odd. I liked that they were handing out plants, though.
John's Table
The SCA booth was full of people with weapons.
Battling SCA
Always a fun event to watch.
Astronomical Society
It seemed somehow appropriate to take a picture of the club I hear about every day at lunch.
Photography Club
I actually signed up for this one.
Kirby's Pictures
Kirby had taken the pictures at the Observer booth.
Action Figures
Maybe this was the Anime Club? I forget.
Point Fencing Club
A good demo always does wonders.
Ham Radio Club
Led by good ol' David K. Stipp!
Wushu Club
Another club with swords.
Free Books!!
The Chambana Book Crossers were giving them out, and using the multiple exclamation points.
Global Domination: Risk Players
A Risk club? Cool.
Giant Evil Robot
Trying to destroy us all, no doubt.
Audio Engineering Society
Guys that play with speakers. Neat.
Classic Movie Club
I think I signed up with these guys too.
Dance Dance Revolution Club
They should have had a demo set up.
'got root?'
The Engineering Council needed someone to admin their systems. They have my card...
Jim and the Dancing Illini
They did a more effective job of handing out flyers than I did.
Boneyard Yacht Club
I just like the name.
Creation vs Evolution
I'm not convinced that it's best to try to argue this case on a college campus.
Lots of Weapons
I didn't catch the name of the club.
Speech and Debate Team Spicy Clamato
Which will live longer? LDBNR or Spicy?
Channing Murray
I didn't get their name in the picture, but I did get a button.
Society for Competitive Fighting Games
The lowest-budget booth on the Quad. (And I thought that I had that all sewn up!)
CITES
Who knew that the local computing organization would show up?
Illini Roleplaying Network
They caught my eye with their Shadowrun 4th Edition Rule Book. That's not out yet!
Like Disco... but not Really
My old improv troupe survives! (Barely.) (Hi, Sam!)
Fight Club (Pinocole)
They chose a good name to get attention.
Middle-Ages Costume
She looked good in the costume, and there weren't many out.
deBono
The LDBNR spin-off survives as well!
Harassing Illini
I still don't know if I approve of these guys, but I like them.
Campus Assassins' Guild
It's another good name for a club I don't want to join.
Illinois Objectivist Club
I really want these guys to start using their newsgroup again.
Students for Individual Liberty
The old Libertarians. Aah, how things change, sorta.
IDEA
"Intelligent Design and Evolution Awareness Club". Yeah.
Physics Society
I just needed to take a picture of these guys to get the taste of the last club out of my mouth...
Giant Corn
Another one of the very few costumes this year.
Rehearsing
The a-capella troupe next to us had to warm up in the shade.
Ella
I've never gotten any really good pictures of Ella...
Ella, II
...until now.
Ella, III
So you'll forgive me if I waste your time by holding on to most of them.
Pink Ape
Handing stuff out. Whee. At least it's a costume.
Crowds
Wandering around in our section of the Quad.
Wandering Crowds
I'm still impressed I handed out as many flyers as I did.
Blind Picture-Taking
This is harder when you have an SLR.
Blind Picture-Taking, II
But I really don't miss the active viewfinder...
Standard View of Quad Day
This is what it looks like, folks.
Breakdancing Girl
Breakdancing Club offered some interesting pictures.
Breakdancing Guy
I should have gotten more action shots, though.
Jon Stewart for President '08
Now *that's* the kind of t-shirt I like to see!
'Play Hockey'
It was fun seeing them high-stick people to make them sign up.
Molly
One of our office assistants, working across the way.
