Rob's High-School Graduation - 24 May 2005
Rob, Beth's brother, graduated as class valedictorian in 2005. I was there to congratulate him, listen to his speech, be horrified by his school's orchestra, meet more of his family, and of course take pictures.

Rob Shrine
The piano was covered with Rob's awards. There were a lot.
Rob Awards
This sums up his awards pretty well: the hat, the certificates, and the occasional medal.
Student Awards
"Most Studious" and "Most Likely To Become A Millionaire". Okay.
Rob and his Speech
Well, his soon-to-be-modified speech anyway. His school forced him to change it on the day of...
Beth and Beth's Mom
It's good to pose on the day of your brother/son's graduation.
Relaxing Rob
Calming down before the big speech.
Tim
I'm just happy to be there. And to be given candy.
Fountain
Beth's Aunt had given this to her mother a few years ago, and it was finally brought out for her visit.
Rob at the Computer
Eventually, the time came to get all dressed up.
Rob and Beth
She was *insanely* proud of him.
Dressed-Up Beth
I still like how Beth looks dressed-up.
Orchestra
I won't say anything about 'em.
Turning Rob
He was turned towards us briefly. You can almost make him out...
Crowd Shot
There are benefits to trying without a flash...
Speakers and Faculty
...and benefits for going with one, too. It all depends.
Room Overview
The whole thing took place in a church, which was just barely big enough to fit us all.
Rob on Stage
Waiting in line for his time(s) to speak.
Choir
They really badly needed an actual piano. (At least this does a good job of showing the screen and the performers...)
Salutatorian
She came up just behind Rob. Hehe.
Rob Goes to the Podium
Behold, his speech begins!
Passing the Torch
Before he could speak, he first had to hand the "torch of knowledge" to the junior class. Aah, high school ceremonies!
Taking The Torch
"I accept this Torch Of Knowledge..."; aah, forget it.
Rob's Speech
His speech was good, and his delivery was excellent.
Rob's Speech, II
It wasn't offensive, and it wasn't stupid.
Rob's Speech, III
He made the audience laugh a few times...
Rob's Speech, IV
...even after his best jokes were removed as "too offensive".
Rob's Speech, V
It's not easy giving a speech like this.
Rob's Speech, VI
But Rob did a good job. And I was proud of him.
Rob's Speech, VII
Especially when he still went out on a limb and mentioned college.
Rob's Speech, VIII
It mattered to him! And besides, he recovered, according to everyone else.
Rob's Speech, IX
Congrats, Rob.
Rob Leaves the Stage
He did good, and didn't collapse.
Rob in Line
Waiting to get his diploma.
Rob Gets His Diploma
Or his diploma-case, anyway. (Which was one of the comments he wasn't allowed to make during his speech.)

Random Pictures
I had to keep on taking pictures while we were looking for Rob.
Beth Finds Rob
It took us a while, but we found him in the crowd.
Beth Finds Rob, II
Of course, once captured we had to take lots of pictures.
Finding More Family
There was a lot of family strewn about the crowds; here we found Beth's Mom and Aunt Lauren.

There, that looks more reasonable.

Clockwise: Aunt Lauren, Grandpa Barley, Beth, Rob, Linda, Paul, and Grandma Dillman.
Rob and Beth Post-Graduation
Her finger survived that treatment, anyway.

I don't think that she got his tassle.
