San Francisco Tour - 12 Jan 2008
Early in the year, my earliest friend Emily came with her family to Stanford to check out our Med School. During this, we decided to go on one of the sight-seeing bus tours of San Francisco. It was weird, and neat, and somewhat educational, and fun both because I was with friends and because I got to take a bunch of neat architecture pictures. They're tricky to label, but let's see what we can do!

Images
Stuff Shop
One of the many tourist traps in our fair city.
City Sightseeing Bus
One of many of these kinds of buses going around the bus at any given time.
The Bay
Well, you can see it in the distance anyway.
Lots of Buses
Plenty of them were hanging out in this area; it's not so bad in the city as a whole.
Magnet Kingdom
Yay, magnets!
Levi's Defense System
Avast, ye scurvy off-brands!
Hills
We have hills. This is still a novelty to me.
Pointy Building
The hard part of this tour was that I still don't know any of the building names.
Our Tour
That's Emily on the right; the rest are tourists. (Unlike me?)
High-Up Sculpture
Watching over the city.
High-Up Sculpture, II
It's differently cool than a gargoyle.
Pointy Building Again
Or a spire? Dunno.
Hotel? Apartment?
It's neat architecture anyway.
Bell and Crane
The city just keeps on growing.
A Building
Really, I don't have much to go with here. I suppose I could talk about the fog.
Port of San Francisco
With a nice clock, I guess.
Buildings and Wires
It gets tricky trying to take pictures without wires eventually.
Street Art
Okay, not the traditional style, but more legit.
A Bar
I forget what it was exactly, but it had a long, sordid history.
Bay Bridge
It's a gorgeous bridge.
Spider Sculpture
Eating small children since 1994.
Bay Bridge, II
I should probably get some proper pictures of it some time.
Mirror Building
And a lot of fog. Otherwise, no clues.
Mostly Mirrored
They're working their way up. I kindof like the effect.
More Buildings
Wires, trees, and mystery...
Cutout Guys
The random art around SF is pretty weird.
More Architecture
Knowing the building names would be much more fun.
Sleeping Woman Sculpture
Definitely interesting.
Fountain
I'm sure there's a name to the fountain too.
More Fountain
At least it's not a building.
Metreon
I go here pretty regularly, it's a good theatre.
More Pretty Buildings
So many unlabelled buildings to label...
H
The Hilton?
Palomar Hotel
Hotels are always labelled more closely. (Pretty building, too.)
Lenny Kravitz Concert
Ooh! Aah!
Bicycle Tour
There really are a lot of tourists around.
Hibernia Bank
It's nice when the buildings are conveniently located.
Building and Beer
Or a beer ad, anyway.
Modern Architecture
Was this the federal building, or treasury building? Something like that.
Cute Pigeons
Maybe it's true because I wrote it here. I dunno; I don't really believe it.
More Treasury Building
You can see the solar panels on top through the trees. Maybe.
Horse Sculpture
The plaque didn't show up well enough. I'm sure I'll just know eventually.
More Sculptures
Watching over the courthouse, as I recall.
More Sculptures, II
I guess those are city names.
City Building
It's a pretty building, and definitely one of the "show this off" spots.
City Building, II
There. That's a proper architecture shot.
City Building, III
I think it worked better horizontally, but I had to check.
Lots of Pictures
Emily had to get a few shots of it too.
More Sculptures Again
Yep, I guess I knew where it was pretty well.
Asian Art Museum
I should really stop by this place sometime.
Interesting Color
The bright yellow really does look good.
Hotel Hartland
Again, nicely labelled. Hooray!
More Fire Escapes
And pretty molding.
Niketown
Okay, I guess we're in a business district.
Ads and Architecture
Yep, a business district it is.
Column and Sculpture
On Fifth Avenue, I guess.
Dragon
Snake! Snake!
Dragon, II
But it's not Chinese New Year...
Dragon, III
...hey, that's not a real dragon!
Lots of City
We were pausing for a second, so I could get some rear shots.
Similar Buildings
I doubt they're really leaning.
Chinatown in the Distance
There it is, our goal for lunch.
Sculpture Store
You can tell you're near Chinatown when the art appears.
Chinatown
It's a good Chinatown. Pretty. Tasty. And pretty good quality stuff.
Spire Again
It's back!
Inside Chinatown
I wish I remembered what the restaurant name was.
Inside Chinatown, II
It was a pretty place, and tasty... the Green Dragon Inn?
Centauri Sculpture
Or at least it's peeing out of two holes.
Faceless Sculptures
Yeah, that's creepy.
City Lights Books
One of those places that I should really stop by and see.
The Stinking Rose
More so for this one. I've actually wanted to try eating at this place for years.
The Bell Tower
There, that's a better shot. Hopefully that's what it really is, too.
Spiky Bird
I wonder if it's actually effective at keeping off the pigeons.
The Hill
Again, there's terrain here. So strange.
Apartments
I gotta admit, that'd be a nice view.
Lombard Street
Twists and Turns! (That, and fog.)
Spy Cafe
It was a really lame place. Made me sad.
Excellent Sweater
She would have liked it more earlier in the day.
Free Cake
No lie.
Penny Arcade
We stopped by the Penny Arcade after the tour.
Mystic Ray
IT TOLD THE TRUTH!
Music Box
I loved all of these machines.
Choir Box
I'm surprised I only got as many pictures of them as I could.
Evil Santa
He's even scarier as a puppet.
The Inquest
By far the most boring machine in the place.
Random Sub
This probably would have been more interesting during the day.
Alcatraz
A pretty decent shot of the island. We didn't visit it this time; I didn't go until five months later.
Sephiroth Break-Dancing
They were break-dancing to a remix of the final battle theme from Final Fantasy VII. Really.
Bird
Hanging out, hoping to be left alone.
Night Skyline
It's a pretty city.
Night Skyline, II
I'm happy to live here.
Jane and Emily
And it's good to have friends visit, too.
