San Juan Islands - 09-10 Jul 2004

As part of our Seattle trip, Beth and I spent a day or so at the San Juan Islands, at her Aunt Susan's "shack". It was absolutely gorgeous, and I wish we had set aside more time for it...

Images
Ferry Driveway
Even the view from here was impressive.
Ferry Line
We had about an hour to wait, having driven for 1:15 from Seattle to get here...it's not a trivial drive.
Ferry Line, II
And there's still a lot of people that come on the trip.
Beth and a View
As we got underway, I actually got Beth to pose briefly...and it turned out well.
Blowing in the Wind
I like Beth's hair. And the view.
Passengers
I think they appreciate edges more than I do.
Passengers and View
There were two really good viewing sections; as you can see, they were fairly full.
The View
We don't have anything like this back home.
The View, II
No, really, we don't.
Beth on the Other Side
It was the only way to get a full picture of her.
More Beth
That didn't stop me from getting in trouble.
The View, III
I suppose we have clouds around here. That's about it, though.
Ferry Cars
From above this time; they're packed in pretty tight
Tim
Yes, it was kinda cold out there. How'd you guess?
Tim, Close-Up
It's rare to get shots of me, and this is why.
Boat's Wake
And there's trees. We have trees back home too.
The Other Side
Everybody enjoys watching the view...
View from a Car
Even down with the cars, the view was good.
Parking Job
Beth did a very good job parking in there.
Pulling Out
Out first shot of the city.
The Shack
Having driven for fifteen minutes, this is what we found.
Democratic Cafe
I somehow figured that Mom would want a shot of this
Dog On Wheels
It's hard to be discreet when you're taking embarrassing pictures with this camera.
Beth
Ordering lunch in Friday Harbor.
Friday Harbor
That's the name of the town, and this is the harbor in the town.
Old Fruit Stand
The official landmark of Beth's Aunt Susan's place.
Neighbour
They had all sorts of neat stuff in their front yard.
Neighbour Art, I
Metal flowers are all the rage!
Neighbour Art, II
This was the first time I'd seen the things, to be fair...
Beautiful View
I need a better lens for this stuff, obviously.
Sleeping Tim
I turned in early, since it was so peaceful...
Kitchen Window
Even as a midwesterner, I'd enjoy having a view like this out of the front window.
Doing Dishes
Cleaning up is always the hard part of "roughing it"...
Bedroom
One of the rustic bedrooms.
Bathroom
There's not even a bidet!
Kitchen
No dishwasher anywhere!
Kitchen Window, II
And this isn't even sunset or dawn!
Kitchen Window, III
You can all be jealous now.
Living Room
No television! Now that's what I call rustic!
Random Plane
On the drive back, we spotted a prop-plane. It was cool.
