Stanford - 06 Sep 2007
Just after Labor Day weekend, I took a quick trip out to Palo Alto, where I stayed with Beth's Aunt Lauren. These pictures were taken in and around Stanford, mostly in the Cantor Center.

Images
Large Metal Sculpture
This was the first thing I could get a proper picture of when I visited the museum. It reminded me of Krannert, back home.
Rental Car
It was a Malibu. I wasn't impressed.
Cantor Center
Okay, it's actually the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts. The shorter name is generally more helpful, though.
Cantor Center, II
Regardless, the entry area is pretty cool.
Headless Statue
The shot itself isn't great, but the different shadows from the sculpture are pretty neat.
Stanford Family Portrait
Or that's the section I recall it being in.
Pink Blob
It amused me to have art outside. I'm not used to the climate out there.
Banana Sculpture
Installation art is always pretty neat.
The Thinker
A cast, of course, but still a nice one. This one was inside, which is why I got to see it.
More Rodin
Rodin makes up an important section of the museum.
Rodin Area
Or at least I think they're still Rodin sculpture casts.
Layers of Sculptures
I don't know how to photograph them individually, but I can do them in bulk.
Crocodile
Eventually I left for the various South American/African art sections.
Carved Wood
I don't remember if this had a specific purpose.
Roman Vase
Or was it Greek? Or Egyptian? I actually like this period, and I can't tell.
Roman Vases
I need to make friends with some art folk. Or just do some research.
Egyptian Sculptures
Okay, I'm pretty sure I'm right on these ones.
Sarcophagus
Sadly, there was probably no mummy inside.
Wooden Horse
Everyone seemed enthralled.
Athena
I think that was Athena, anyway.
Green and Dead
I liked the mix in the Palo Alto area - everything was either green, or dead.
Rocks
Another interesting sculpture type - lots of crushed rocks in a pile.
Rocks, II
The art was in the circle?
More Horses
Or horse outlines, anyway. They're probably suitable for animation.
Id Dispenser
Or is it just behind a window? It doesn't really matter; the modern art has begun!
Number Paintings
0-9, all colorful and thematic.
Social Butterfly
I'm really not one. Grr.
Forms of Murder
It looks like a Greek philosopher.
Diner Painting
I don't know what it meant.
Guy Statue
This was pretty effective and vaguely creepy.
Guy Statue, II
It was actually hard to take a picture.
Rodin Garden
Okay, it would have been better if it had been open.
Buddha Vase
Or that's what I guess it is.
Dragon
This is the kind of art I like seeing.
Hindu Sculpture
What to say about it?
Hindu Headboard
Okay, it probably had some other purpose. Please don't get too offended, I'm just guessing!
Confucius
Maybe. I really am just making stuff up at this point.
Jade Cow
At least I can recognize this... or, let me guess, it's really a water buffalo, isn't it?
Horse Sculpture
That's gotta be a horse!
Tower in the Distance
I'm sure that all of the landmarks are commonplace to those that work out there, but, they're new to me.
Main Circle
The main circle looks a lot like our Quad - in as much as it's green, and probably has lots of students on it when the campus is open.
Quad and Sculptures
We don't get any cool sculptures in our main areas, though... well, maybe a few.
Looking at the Sculptures
They did seem like the right place to get some tourist pictures taken.
Chapel
Another central section of Stanford. I'm not sure what to think about it, except that it is pretty...
Science Building
It would have behooved me to figure out which one.
Skyline Chili Shirt
It wasn't a great picture, but it amused me greatly to see a Skyline Chili fan on the west coast!
